A Sunny Affair
Monday’s solstice marked the point at which the Sun was at its northernmost point above the Earth. Essentially it was one mega hot weekend…
Bathed in blazing hot rays, the Autry museum was plastered with enormous solar panels this past Saturday, June 18th during the first annual “Sunstock Solar Festival”. Deep in the City of Angels and held on the backside of the Hollywood hills was a culmination of food trucks, local vendors and an infrastructure completely powered by solar energy supporting the afternoon with bliss tunes and bodies moving rhythmically to sweet beats that lasted far into the evening.
Sunstock boasted a robust lineup featuring multiple genre styles to suite every music enthusiasts taste. Ranging all the way from smaller acts like Gateway Drugs and Trapdoor Social, to established bands like The Big Pink and Allah Lahs. All leading up to the almighty headliners Wavves and Cults to rock us into the evening. As the sun set The Big Pink went on and the solar panels collected energy kicked in illuminating the event with a spectacular light show.
The night forged on as the 60’s-centric band Allah Lahs brought about original tunes reminiscent to the Beach Boys early releases complete with multiple guitars, bongo drums, keyboard and all other fixings for a soft beach-rock collective. Following that, aspirant punk rock group Wavves hit the stage by instigating the audience to cause a little mayhem. Classic Punk Rock!
Last but most definitely not least the New York City band Cults stepped on stage to close the simmering evening. Understandably the sets were running behind schedule and it wasn’t until 12am that the headliner took the stage. The happy pop synths soothed the crowd with their romantic lyrics rocking the audience into a sweet dream-like state. In conclusion the festivals success was a wonderful indicator of a return event next year. Best of All! Proceeds from Sunstock Solar Fest go to the charitable organization “Kids Cancer Connection”.
I mean come on… who doesn’t love making money and listening to music for such a worthy cause!?
