Matchbox Twenty and Counting Crows Join Forces For ‘A Brief History of Everything Tour 2017’
Tour: July 14th - October 1st, 2017
In case you have been hiding under a rock this summer...The Wurrly Team is here to inform you that two of music’s greatest hit making machines have linked up for a legendary summer tour! Multi-Platinum selling bands, Matchbox Twenty and Counting Crows have been recreating memories from the 90’s / early 2000’s for fans all over the U.S. This epic #throwback tour, rightly named “A Brief History of Everything Tour 2017” presented by Live Nation, will keep rockin’ until October 1st, where the iconic band duo will wrap up in Texas.
Last year, during the summer of 2016 the lead singer-songwriter of MatchBox Twenty, Rob Thomas, teamed up with Counting Crows for an extremely successful co-headline tour. With such a great turn out, Thomas and Counting Crows’ lead singer Adam duritz, had nothing but love for one another. Lucky for us, they decided to do it all over again but this time, Thomas has brought the rest of Matchbox Twenty along for the ride.
“No matter what I will ever do, nothing feels like home as much as playing these songs with these guys and it never will, and I can’t wait to spend another summer out there on the road with the Crows.” - Rob Thomas
"To be honest, we took a vote after last year and decided to spend every summer with Rob from now on... Can. Not. Wait.” - Adam Duritz
Trey Marucci, one of our very own Wurrly Team members, was able to make the trip out to Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada to enjoy a night of infamous hits from these two incredible bands he grew up listening to. We interviewed Trey to get the deets on the show so we could live vicariously through him!
1.) How long have you been a Matchbox Twenty and Counting Crows fan?
“I don’t want to admit to being a Matchbox Twenty fan but I probably know the words to every one of their songs...being a child of the 90’s, it was kind of inevitable. I have been a big Counting Crows fan since high school.”
2.) Let’s test your ‘fan girl’ level for these bands. Can you name all of the members from each band?
3.) Can you name the lead singers?
“Yes, Adam Duritz and Rob Thomas.”
4.) When was the first time you remember listening to either band?
“The first time I remember listening to Counting Crows was in high school... I wasn’t old enough to drive yet, so an older student was giving me a ride to school and Mr. Jones came on the radio. I think I memorized the lyrics to that song the very first time I listened to it.”
5.) Have you seen them in concert before?
“I saw Counting Crows in college, so this concert in Vegas was kind of a throwback of being a 21 year old going to the Electric Factory in Philadelphia with my best friend. It was a blast, they played with Rusted Root and they did a whole set of covers...they sang Wild Horses by the Rolling Stones, I remember that like it was yesterday.”
6.) How did they compare to what you imagined them to perform like live?
“Since i've seen them, Counting Crows was the exact same, they were great. Adam Duritz is such a great lead singer. [The concert] is like a sing along, everybody knows the words to every song."
“Matchbox Twenty I had never seen before. I couldn’t believe Matchbox Twenty puts on such an unbelievable show...there was so much energy, the place went crazy. I wasn’t expecting it, but the show was spectacular."
7.) Who did you go with?
“ I went with my girlfriend, It was fun we had a blast. She humored me for a quick one day trip to Vegas just to see the concert. She won't admit it but I think she secretly enjoyed it.”
8.) Did anything interesting happen/funny happen on your trip to see them?
“I would love to say there was some crazy Vegas story but the average age for the concert was probably between 35-45 so it was just a bunch of people reliving their high school and college days... It was fun though, we had a good time.”
9.) What is your favorite song from either band?
“Matchbox Twenty... I like 3AM, which was a crowd favorite. Counting Crows...gosh there are so many of them, they played so many of them, but they ended the concert with one that I love which is Rain King.”
10.) Are they on your top 5 favorite bands of all time?
“Counting Crows is probably my #1...or Dave Matthews if i’m going to get nostalgic, but yes."
11.) Who is your top 5?
“That’s a great question...Dave Matthews, Counting Crows, I am actually a huge Jay-Z fan, I also love some of the classic bands like, The Band and the Stones."
12.) How did the concert go down? Did they perform together or separately?
“They performed separately. The Counting Crows came out and did about an hour and a half then Matchbox Twenty did about the same...it was definitely a long concert.”
13.) Was it a cool production?
“Yeah! It was a way bigger production than I expected. There were moving lights shooting out at the crowd...it was a pretty great show for two bands you wouldn't think would put on a big production.
See ya next week!
